Family Fun Colorado!
I am well again, I came to life in the cool winds and crystal waters of the mountains...
- John Muir
Family fun in Colorado is easy to find! With the Rocky Mountains running from top to bottom, families can experience outdoor recreation during all seasons of the year. The plains offer wildlife sightings and lakes for boating; the plateaus are filled with canyons and forests; there are numerous national and state monuments and parks (
Colorado Parks and Recreation
), and the weather is as close to perfect as you can want!
One of the easiest family bonding activities for Colorado is
hiking
. Available in all
seasons
, family fun in Colorado definitely involves hiking! Check out the links to see a list of possible family hiking spots along the Front Range.
Camping
is another wonderful family outdoor adventure in Colorado. There are plenty of campsites to choose from, including organized sites such as the one near this picture (in Golden Gate State Park) and more open sites throughout BLM land. Some people even do snow camping (with or without an RV), but we prefer our family camping activities during summer or early fall. Colorado has many different varieties of
campgrounds
, and for our family, family fun Colorado must include at least a few camping trips every year.
Family fun Colorado can be found in a great variety of
day activities
. From shorter (and closer) hikes (such as this one in Bear Creek Lake State Park) to zoos to parks and water parks -- Colorado has almost everything you could want for daily activities which provide family bonding experiences.
Most mountain bikers will tell you that Colorado is home to a number of premier mountain biking trails. That includes beginner and medium-level trails, as well. Our son, who is currently seven, has just begun learning the ins and outs of mountain biking -- and he's had a couple of opportunities for beginner rides this summer already.
We will continually update our Colorado pages as we discover new family fun adventures -- if you're interested in receiving monthly or weekly updates, subscribe to our e-zine below.
